Victor Urbach Bio

Founder & Senior Mechanical Engineer  ·  General Manager  ·  ASME Member

An Engineering Career Built on Problem-Solving

Victor Urbach's career has been shaped by a single thread: applying engineering principles to solve real-world problems. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pratt Institute in 1982, he joined Brookhaven National Laboratory as part of the Solar Energy Group, where he developed ground-coupled heat exchanger models for renewable energy applications.

From there, Victor moved into the private sector, serving as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Sperry Gyroscope and as a Finite Element Analysis Specialist at Eaton Corporation — both Fortune 500 companies known for precision-engineered products. He later joined Computer Aided Engineering Associates (CAEA), an engineering consulting and software firm, as a Sales Support Engineer — a role that combined deep technical knowledge with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences.

Along the way, Victor earned two graduate degrees from NYU Tandon School of Engineering (formerly Polytechnic Institute): a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1985) and a Master of Science in Management (1988). He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and formerly held a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in New York State.

A Safety-First Philosophy, Rooted in Emergency Medicine

Before and during his engineering career, Victor spent six years as a volunteer EMT and Advanced EMT (AEMT) with the Vigilant Volunteer Fire Department in Great Neck, New York (1976–1982). At the time, the AEMT credential was among the first advanced cardiac emergency technician certifications available — rigorous training that went well beyond standard EMT coursework.

During those years of emergency response, Victor witnessed firsthand the serious injuries that result from ladder falls — broken bones, head trauma, and worse. Those experiences left a lasting impression. When he later founded Inventive Garage & Workshop, they became a driving motivation: to bring safer, engineered alternatives to market that let homeowners and professionals access overhead storage without the risks of climbing unstable ladders with heavy loads.

That safety-first philosophy remains central to every product Victor selects and every recommendation his team makes. It's why Inventive Garage specializes in motorized attic lifts and cargo elevators that eliminate dangerous ladder climbs, premium attic stairs engineered for stability and load capacity, and overhead storage systems designed for secure, long-term use.

Founding Inventive Garage & Workshop

In 1997, Victor founded Inventive Goods LLC (DBA Inventive Garage & Workshop) as a national e-commerce retailer focused on home storage, access systems, and workshop equipment. The name "Inventive" reflects the company's mission: bringing smart, innovative solutions to a market that had been underserved by conventional retail.

Over nearly a decade, Inventive Garage has grown into America's leading online retailer of attic and overhead storage solutions, serving homeowners, contractors, builders, architects, and facility managers across the continental United States. The company is a Platinum Authorized Distributor and National Manufacturer's Representative for leading brands including SpaceLift, Versa Lift, FAKRO, eLAIR, Precision Ladders, and Majic Stairs, among many others. Inventive also markets heavy-duty cargo lifts under its own Empire and MiTee brand names — systems built for commercial applications in warehouses, churches, schools, and other institutional settings.

Beyond attic lifts and stairs, the catalog includes premium garage storage cabinets, tool chests and roller cabinets, workbenches and worktables, wall organization systems, and garage flooring — everything needed to transform a garage or workshop into a functional, organized space.

The Engineering Advantage

What sets Inventive Garage apart from other retailers is the depth of engineering expertise behind every customer interaction. When you call Inventive Garage, you're not speaking with a general sales representative — you're consulting with a team that includes multiple degreed mechanical engineers who understand load ratings, structural requirements, ceiling and floor framing, motor specifications, and mechanical system design.

Victor personally reviews complex installations, advises on product selection for unusual framing conditions or heavy-payload requirements, and works directly with contractors and architects to specify the right system for new construction and remodeling projects. His background in finite element analysis and mechanical design means he can evaluate products not just as a retailer, but as an engineer who understands how and why they work.

This engineering-first approach extends to the entire Inventive team. Every team member is trained to provide technically informed guidance — not scripted sales pitches — so that customers and trade professionals receive accurate, reliable advice on every call.
