A Real Stair in a Ladder's Footprint

A loft or attic room usually loses out to the stair that would reach it, because a conventional flight needs a run the floor below can't spare. The Rintal Mini staggers alternating solid beech treads on a powder-coated steel frame, so 11 steps take a 56" run on the lower floor, at a rise you adjust between 7 7/8" and 9½" to land exactly on your upper floor. Each 24"-wide step is 1⅝"-thick finger-jointed beech with no knots, sealed with three coats of water-based finish. The 11-step kit weighs 235 lb boxed, with the structure, inside railing, and beech handrail in the same box.
