The Spiral Stair That Looks Like Furniture

An all-metal spiral can feel industrial in a living space, and a custom timber one is a carpentry project with a carpentry price. The Rintal Phola puts 1⅝"-thick solid beech treads – finger-jointed, knot-free, sealed with three water-based coats – on a modular powder-coated steel structure, with a rise you set between 8⅛" and 9½" to land on your exact upper floor. Four diameters, 47" to 71", let the same stair fit a tight loft opening or a generous open-plan room. The 47" kit weighs 424 lb boxed with its universal landing, and the 71" kit 589 lb.
